Bhubaneswar: The state government will soon implement a ‘‘Secondary School Readiness Programme (SSRP)’’ in eight educationally backward districts from the current academic session.
According to official sources, the programme would be implemented at 1225 schools in 82 blocks under eight districts – Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Sambalpur – to addresses the gaps between actual and required learning level of students in high schools.
The school and mass education department will conduct a memory test for 82,690 Class-IX students in the 1225 schools in the eight districts to ascertain their memory. About 60,000 students would be identified through the test and would be covered under the programme, they said.
Remedial classes in Mathematics, Science and English would be provided to the students with the highest learning gaps. Special handbooks for teachers and study material for the students would be given away. The teachers would coach the students for four hours every day during school hours, the sources said.
The four-hour teaching would commence July 6 to 26 while the educationally poor students of Class VII and IX would get two-hour special teaching for 45 days from July 27.
The first mid-test would be conducted in August and the second test in October. The teachers would again hold classes in the same subjects and topics again in November to ensure the students do not forget the courses, officials stated.
