Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked security personnel to use modern technology in order to investigate economic offences and cyber crimes after accepting a guard-of-honour at the valediction of Police Professional Championship here Friday.
Patnaik emphasised on quick investigations into incidents of crime and asked police officials to maintain impartiality while dealing with criminals. “Security officials should be extremely careful in investigating crimes against women, children and weaker sections,” Patnaik said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the measures taken by his government to modernise police forces and upgrade security infrastructure in the state. He put emphasis on the efficient use of economic offences wing (EOW), cyber crime unit and special task force (STF) of the Crime Branch.
Participating in the event, director general of police (DGP) KB Singh claimed that security personnel are trying their best to check crimes against women, children and differently-abled people. “Operation Smile-2 and Muskan-2, launched by the state police to trace missing children, have achieved success. We are now upgrading our infrastructure to deal with cyber crimes and economic offences,” Singh said.
Special director general of police (crime) Bijay Kumar Sharma stressed on the organisation of Police Professional Championship for raising the efficiency of security personnel.
The Chief Minister felicitated police officials who have achieved excellence in investigating crimes. He also gave away awards to sniffer and tracker dogs of Orissa Police for their meritorious service.
