Dhenkanal:A man was killed while eight others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between two speeding cars on NH-55 under Dhenkanal Sadar police limits in this district Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Siria Sahu, a resident of Padmanabhapur village. The injured are SK Mohammad of Talabarakota, Abani Sahu, Rajesh Lochan Sahu and Rashmi Ranjan Raul of Kamakhyanagar, Tarun Mallick of Godarabili, Raju Nayak of Anla Bareni, Madhab Chandra Sahu of Haladibari, and Santa Sahu of Kantio village.
The mishap took place at around 11.30 PM besides Dhenkanal truck association office after driver of one of the cars heading to Dhenkanal town lost control over the wheels and hit the other car.
The intensity of the collision was so high that Siria was crushed to death the spot, leaving eight others injured.
With the help of locals, police and the fire tender team rescued the injured and admitted them to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital (DHH).
Seven of them have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition worsened, it was learnt. Police have seized the vehicles and launched a probe.
The body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
