Begunia: This block in Khordha district woke up Monday to a peaceful dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Bikas manch here. The bandh was in protest against the government’s failure to meet the region’s long-standing demands.
The region, the Manch says, has been deprived of even the basic civic facilities. The people were seeking NAC status to Begunia and setting up of a JMFC court here for a long time. They were also seeking more of educational, health and irrigation facilities.
The members of the manch held pickets at various points. Traffic on the Khordha-Balangir national highway-5 stopped due to the blockade. Educational institutions, shops, business houses, government offices and banks downed their shutters.
