Pallahara: Two persons, including a 12-year-old girl, were sexually assaulted on the eve of Raja in separate incidents in Angul and Jajpur districts Friday.
In the first incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth of a neighbour village while she had gone to graze cattle in a forest at Khanataposhi village under Khamar police limits of Pallahara block in Angul district.
Acting on the complaint by the victim’s family, police swung into action and arrested the accused – Guru Badra of Bariha Munda village.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the victim had gone to graze goats in a nearby forest. Finding the girl alone, Guru gagged her and took her to an isolated place where he outraged her modesty. After committing the crime, the accused fled the area.
After returning home, the victim narrated the ordeal to her parents following which they filed an FIR with the Khamar police station, on the basis of which Guru was arrested. The victim and the accused were sent for medical examinations and later Guru was produced in court.
Further investigation is on, said Khamar police station IIC Santosh Kumar Mirdha.
Similarly, police Friday arrested a man on the charge of raping a married woman at Hasanpur village under Sadar police limits in Jajpur district. The accused was identified as Brajakihosre Jena (28), son of Akul Jena of neighbour Kashipur village.
According to police, the victim along with her husband, original residents of Bihar, resided at Hasanpur village and made a living by selling ‘gupchup’.
While the victim’s husband had gone for work, Jena approached the woman claiming that her husband had met with an accident. Believing him, the woman went with him on a two-wheeler. However, he waylaid her half-way and took her to a forest where he allegedly raped her.
He then threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone. Later, the woman narrated her ordeal to her husband after which the couple lodged a complaint with the police Friday morning. On the orders of Sadar IIC Manoranjan Das, ASI Lambodhar Jena led a police team to the area and conducted a raid at Jena’s house. Subsequently, Jena was arrested.
