Bolangir: Punjilal Meher, the mastermind of the Patnagarh parcel bomb tragedy, was sent on a 14-day judicial custody Monday after completion of his second phase of remand.
He was remanded in the Patnagarh sub-jail after the SDJM Court rejected his bail pleas. Punjilal’s lawyer stated that the order will be challenged at the Bolangir district and session court.
The Crime Branch (CB) team returned from Raipur Sunday along with Punjilal after a reconstruction of the crime plot. The accused gave a live demonstration of his bomb making skills in the presence of experts after his arrival back in Odisha.
“After his remand period, the CB produced him before the SDJM court. The court sent him to judicial custody. We will now challenge the order at the Bolangir district and sessions court,” said Punjilal’s lawyer.
The purpose of reconstructing the crime scene was to ensure the entire case is prosecuted without any error, senior CB officials said.
The investigating team also visited Kantabanji railway station and questioned the contractor of the vehicle parking area there. It was where Punjilal had parked his vehicle before leaving for Raipur.
