Kantamal: Even as the controversy over the suicide of a gangrape victim at Musaguda village near Kunduli in Koraput district is still raging, a Class VIII girl was allegedly gangraped by two youths at Kudibahal village under Kantamal police limits in Boudh district.
The girl on her way to relieve herself was waylaid by the two accused who gagged the girl and dragged her to a forest where they raped her. The incident occurred Saturday night but it came to the fore late Sunday night after the girl’s family members lodged a complaint with the police.
The accused identified as Parma Bhoi and his aide were on the run after the incident. After a police complaint, the girl was sent for medical examination Monday while a manhunt was launched to nab the absconders. The accused have been identified and we will arrest them soon, police said.
The 14-year-old girl, a native of Nuapada village, had gone to attend a marriage function along with her paternal aunt at Kudibahal village Saturday. Sources said the incident occurred Saturday evening when the girl along with her aunt had gone to relieve herself.
She went to fetch water from a tubewell near the local school where she was accosted by the two youths. Parma and his aide dragged her to a nearby forest where they outraged her modesty. The girl’s aunt then rushed back to the village and alerted villagers who rescued the girl.
“My niece went to fetch water from the tubewell when I went to relieve myself. Parma and his friend who were near the tubewell gagged her and took her to the forest where they took turns on her. I came looking for her when she did not come back with water. Hearing her screams, I called out the villagers for help after which the two fled,” said her aunt who is the sole witness to the crime. “Parma’s parents are giving us death threats after the incident,” the lady added.
“We have launched search operation to nab the duo. Raids have been conducted at several places,” said IIC of Kantamal police station Purna Chandra Kishan. A case has been registered, he added.
