15 electrocuted aboard bus

Jaipur, June 12: At least 15 persons were electrocuted Friday when a bus in which they were travelling came in contact with a live wire in Pachewar area of Tonk district of Rajasthan, officials said.

Fifteen deaths were confirmed and several others suffered burn injuries, district collector Rekha Gupta said.Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot, Gupta said, with superintendent of police Deepak Kumar stating that the death toll was likely to increase.
“At least 15 persons were killed on the spot. Over 35 injured passengers have been rushed to hospital,” sources said.
The private bus was carrying a marriage party from Baseda to Morla village in the district when the incident occurred in Pachewar area, about 70 km from the district headquarters, Prabhati Lal Jat, SDO Malpura (Tonk district) said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condoled the deaths and announced a financial assistance of `5 lakh from the energy department for the next of kin of the deceased.
Raje rushed home minister Gulab Chand Kataria, urban development minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, agriculture minister Prabhu Lal Saini, energy minister Pushpendra Singh and a team of senior doctors from Jaipur to Tonk, an official release said.
Senior officials including divisional commissioner and IG of Ajmer, district collector and SP of Tonk, MD Jaipur Vidhyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) are also on their way to the spot. PTI
