Rayagada: Two Class-V students drowned while they were taking bath in a river at Puska village under Seshakhala police limits in Rayagada district Thursday evening. After hours of frantic search, fire tender personnel fished out the bodies from the water body Friday morning. The duo has been identified as Panchu Nimaka and Nimai Nimaka, both aged 12 years.
Sources said the two friends had gone to Nagabali river to take bath after a game of cricket Thursday evening. However, the duo fell into deep water and was swept away by strong water current.
Family members grew apprehensive and searched for them after the two did not return to their houses till late in the evening. Failing to trace their whereabouts, the family members lodged a missing persons’ complaint with Seshakhala police station.
Locals on their way to relieve themselves spotted the kids floating in the river and informed their family members, who alerted the fire team and recovered the bodies. On receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death was registered in this connection.
