Cuttack: Hundreds of BJP workers Thursday demonstrated before Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office protesting against corruption and delay in the execution of integrated sanitation project by Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The protesters had a scuffle with the police when the latter prevented them from entering the CMC office. The demonstrators threw eggs and tomatoes at the CMC office.
Additional DCP Rajkishore Paikray and constable Bhujabala Majhi sustained head injuries after a few agitators hurled stones at police. The BJP demonstrators, however, denied their involvement in stone pelting and alleged it the handiwork of some BJD workers. Police registered a case and arrested BJP leader Jyoti Ranjan Palei in this connection. BJP leaders claimed that at least 30 workers of the party were injured in police action.
BJP leader Nayan Kishore Mohanty demanded the CMC be dissolved and fresh election be conducted as the corporation is involved in knee deep corruption.BJP spokesman Pitambar Acharya said the CMC has miserably failed to provide basic amenities to the people.
