Jagatsinghpur: A local court sentenced two persons to 20 years of imprisonment after convicting them of gangrape of a minor disabled girl under Naugaon police limits in Jagatsinghpur district in 2015, a report said.
The additional district -cum-special judge, Bhagaban Pradhan, handed down the punishment on Mithun Bhoi (22) and Ganesh Bhoi (22) in Harishpur village under the Naugaon police limits.
The judge also imposed a penalty of `10,000 on each of them which was to be recovered from the convicts and handed over to the victim through the district legal services authority (DLSA). In case of the default of the loan, the two will undergo an additional year of imprisonment, the order said. The judge passed the order by examining the statements of 18 witnesses.
The incident occurred when the victim was returning home after relieving herself in the night of July 4, 2015. The two accused gagged her before picking her up to an isolated place where they took turns on her. Family members grew apprehensive after she did not return home and traced her at the deserted site lying in critical condition. Family members admitted her to the hospital where doctors administered her treatment.
A complaint was lodged by her father at Naugaon police station the next day. Police registered a case and started an investigation. Special public prosecutor Siba Majhi pleaded the matter on behalf of the state government.
