250gm brain tumour removed at MKCG

Berhampur: Doctors at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here gave a new lease of life to a woman after successfully removing a 250-gram tumour from her brain.

Hospital sources said Shanti Mahankuda, 50, of Badagada area in Ganjam district had been unable to recognise people, respond to sounds, or interact normally due to the tumour. Her behaviour reportedly resembled that of a mentally retarded patient.

Family members brought her to MKCG Medical and Hospital September 11 for a check-up where tests confirmed the presence of a brain tumour. She was admitted to the Neuro-Surgery department, where a team of doctors led by HoD of neurosurgery, Rabi Narayan Panda, performed an eight-hour surgery to remove the tumour.

The operation was declared a success.
