Rourkela: The Jhirapani police Sunday claimed to have busted a robbers’ gang and arrested three of its members following a raid here in Sundargarh district.
The police seized gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees and Rs 3,500 in cash from the accused. The police also seized two country-made pistols, masks, and two knives from them.
The accused were identified as Safaraz Ansari (21), Manwar Ansari (19) of Nuagaon under Lathikata block and Dhiraj Kumar Sahu (19) of Malgodown under Uditnagar police limits. Meanwhile, two other members of the gang are on the run.
The six robbers barged into Nrusingh Tripathy’s house at Jagada village July 11 and looted gold ornaments by threatening the family members at a gunpoint. Based on a complaint lodged by Nrusingh’s son Sudipt, police registered a case and launched a probe.
It was during a raid that police recovered the Aadhaar card of Dhiraj from the spot and zeroed in on him. Dhiraj confessed to the crime during interrogation and revealed the names of his associates.
According to police, Dhiraj had earlier worked as a mason in the house of Tripathy. It was during that period that he came to know of the gold ornaments and hatched a plan to loot them. Later, the six looters barged into the house and committed the crime.
Based on Dhiraj’s revelation, police managed to arrest two of his aides while three others are still on the run. The three in Bihar and will be arrested soon, the police said.
