Cuttack: Sisu Bharati School (SBS), Gangamandir Upper Primary School (GUPS) and Orissa Police School (OPS) sealed their semifinal spots in the 19th Bhagaban Das Memorial Inter-School Junior football tournament after registering comprehensive victories in their quarterfinals here, Tuesday.
SBS scraped past PM Academy 2-1, GUPS overcame Sisu Mandir, Kaligali 2-0 while OPS edged out RC School 4-2 via the tie-breaker.
In the senior segment Bidyasha School defeated Ravenshaw Collegiate School 2-0 to enter the semifinals of the VIIth Basant Kumar Das Memorial Senior Inter-School football tournament, Tuesday.
Ananya, Swetapadma selected
Ananya Basak and Swetapadma Dalai has been selected to the 17-member Orissa squad which will participate in the 79th Junior and Youth National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships to be played January 18-23 at Durgapur, West Bengal, Orissa State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA) announced in a press release here, Tuesday.
The squad: (Boys): M Eshwar Rao, Saheel Bhuyan, Soumyaranjan Pati, Abinash Tripathy, G Omprakash, Krishan Prusty, Jubhajit Deb, Sudeep K Behera, M Shiva and Amrit Chakrabarty; (Girls): Ananya Basak, Swetapadma Dalai, Sikriti Bhagat, Nandini Biswal, Yoshita Jammula, Sushree Pattanayak and Payal Pani; Coach: Kallol Ganguly.
Hockey tourney
AG Orissa will host the IA & AD East Zone Hockey Tournament, January 18 and 19 here at the Kalinga Stadium, senior deputy accountant general Ashok Kumar Joshi announced Tuesday at the AG conference hall in Bhubaneswar. The tournament will see three AG teams from of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. By virtue of being the finalist in the last edition AG West Bengal will get a bye and directly play in the final against the winner of the match between AG Jharkhand and AG Orissa. Former India hockey player and RS member Dilip Tirkey will attend the tournament as chief guest.
