Berhampur: Four days after Childline officials rescued a three-year old girl from a house in Kabisuryanagar in Ganjam district branded with hot iron, police detained her mother and uncle Thursday.
The girl was identified as the daughter of Babula and Sunita Sahu at Bhasia Sahi in Kabisuryanagar. Police took her mother Sunita and uncle Sudhir Dalei into custody and questioned them in this connection.
This was stated here by SDPO Aswini Kumar Sahu to the media here Thursday. He said a probe is on to ascertain the real reason behind the branding of the little girl with hot iron.
The SDPO said Babula and his wife were staying in a rented house in Bhasia Sahi in Kabisurynagar and worked as a casual labourers to earn their living. The girl and her mother were left alone in the house after Babula left home to work as a migrant labourer.
Meanwhile, the girl’s uncle Sudhir visited and tortured the little girl by branding her with hot iron along with her mother. Hearing her screams, neighbours alerted the Childline officials which raided the house and rescued the victim September 30. However, the victim’s mother and uncle managed to escape fearing arrest.
The Childline officials, after rescuing the girl, admitted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment and lodged an FIR in Kabisuryanagar police station.
