Bolangir: Bolangir Town police rescued a three-year-old girl Monday morning, who was sitting next to the body of her mother, from a rented house near Shiva temple in Sagarpada locality of this district.
During preliminary investigation, it was guessed that the lone toddler’s mother might have died some two-three days ago. The woman used to work as a domestic help in nearby localities and lived with her only daughter in the one-room house. The baby girl was sleeping next to her mother for the last couple of days without realising that the woman has died, an official in Bolangir Town police station informed.
“Supposedly, the baby was starving since the death of her mother. She was immediately provided food and water by some neighbours following the rescue,” the senior police official said.
According to a source, the woman came to Sagarpada locality nearly one-and-half years ago along with her baby girl. At that time, she was disowned by her parents and in-laws as well.
Adding more information about the deceased woman, owner of the rented house said, “She asked me to allow her to live in the single room located in the premises of my house, which was then vacant. Narrating about her plight, the woman also said that she had to earn and upbring her lone child. Later, I allowed her to stay and since then she used to work as domestic help to eke out her living.”
“The woman was often falling sick. I asked her daughter while playing outside the house Sunday about her (the former) health. The girl replied that she was sleeping. However, Monday morning, the child told a neighbour that some insects are coming out of her mother’s mouth. On being informed by the neighbour, we rushed to the house. Bad odour was coming from the room and we immediately informed Town police about it,” the landlord stated.
Meanwhile, Bolangir Town police have reached the spot and launched a probe to ascertain the actual reason behind death of the woman. Police seized the decomposed body of woman and sent it for post-mortem. “Detailed probe is still underway, an official said.
