Berhampur: A replica of a giraffe that was installed at Thailand sea beach is going to be put up on the premises of Berhampur ITI.
Students of this institution have already created ripples by putting up myriads of such installations. They are now busy cannibalizing scrap machinery parts to give shape to the Thai giraffe replica here in the state.
The ITI already has a museum housing different installations made out of scrap. And, in recent years, the students have earned laurels from different institutions from within and outside the state for erecting startling structures.
For the students, it is nothing but a labour of love towards recycling and rejuvenation. “We are putting out our souls to install the giraffe sculpture. After its completion and subsequent inauguration, when and if it bags awards like our previous installations, we will get immense satisfaction. We will be proud when our labour pays off,” they said.
The model under construction is going to be 32 feet high. Fifty or so students of fitter, welding and painting trades are putting up the structure. The institutional authorities have informed that the structure will be audience ready on New Year’s Day, or by the first week of January to be precise. “This model is going to set an example for scrap installations across the lands,” they added.
About 500 kg of scrap materials like iron rods and plates have gone into making the giraffe and the students have been working tirelessly for the past two weeks. Now they are giving final touches to the structure.
Apart from the giraffe structure, the students are also working on an 18ft-long fish installation which will be another wonder.
Under the guidance of Principal Rajat Panigrahi, fitter trade instructors Anil Kumar Mishra, Arun Patra and Bichitra Padhiary, welding trade instructors Dillip Kumar Gaud, Abani Dalai, turner instructor Gopal Krushna Rath, painting instructors Sachidananda Achari and Harish Sona, the students are learning as well as earning fame.
