Cuttack, Feb 26: As many as four centre superintendents were relieved of their duties by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) for dereliction of duty during the conduct of the English paper of the HSC examinations Wednesday.
According to sources, three of the four superintendents are from Keonjhar while one is from Sundargarh district. In another case, a fake candidate identified as Mangaraj Nayak was caught red-handed appearing in the examination for another student on a fake admit card. A teacher was found to have helped Mangaraj in the fraud. The teacher, identified as Laxmidhar Nayak, has been suspended. Action has also been initiated against the headmaster of the school where the incident occurred. BSE president Dakhya Prasad Nanda said police cases have been lodged against the fake candidate and the teacher who helped him.
Meanwhile, doubts have again resurfaced regarding the smooth and fair conduct of the HSC examination, which has been marred by several incidents in the past. Nanda said BSE is actively checking all centres for irregularities as is evident from the action against the erring school officials. As many as 299 cheating cases, which were detected on the first day of the examination, is also proof that the BSE will not spare such behaviour, Nanda added.
A total of 362 students were caught resorting to malpractice on the second day of the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Wednesday. All of them were caught for copying in the English exam, said board president Dakhya Prasad Nanda.
