Kendrapara: Police apprehended five youths Saturday for their alleged involvement in sexually assaulting a minor girl Thursday last in a jungle near Pentha beach under Rajnagar police station in the district.
Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar said police registered a case under Sections 341, 323, 293, 509, 376, 511, 379, 34 IPC; 8, 14 of POCSO Act,; 66 (c) and 67(A) of Information Technology Act, 2000 and arrested the youths after the father of the girl lodged an FIR with Rajnagar police Friday night.
Police identified the accused as Nimai Padhihary, Sukanta Mandal, Sambhu Mandal, Mani Mandal and Akhaya Sethy. Efforts are on to arrest the other youths involved in the case.
The SP said after sexually assaulting the girl the accused videographed her in nude and uploaded the video on social media.
According to the SP, the girl, a Plus II Arts Second year student had gone to Pentha beach with her boyfriend Thursday to celebrate Raja festival.
While, the girl and her boyfriend were sitting near the local Banabiharijew temple, a group of youths started misbehaving with them. They forcibly took the girl and her boyfriend to the nearby forest and sexually abused the girl and forced the duo to undress.
Later, they made an attempt to rape the girl and forcibly took their mobile phone and money.
The accused allegedly captured the nude videos and photos of the girl on their mobiles and later uploaded them on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
