Koksara: Amid reports about return of migrant returnees to various states during the pandemic, Koksara police along with its counterparts in Madhya Pradesh rescued 7 bonded labourers from the clutches of a contractor Wednesday. A middleman was arrested too.
According to reports, a middleman had lured two labourers of Behera Roiguda under Koksara police limits and five people of Dabriguda under Amapani police limits on the promise of jobs in Madhya Pradesh.
However, all the seven were allegedly ‘mortgaged’ with a contractor for Rs 80,000 by the middleman. The migrant labourers were being tortured at Kanwar village in Ratlam district.
The arrested middleman was identified as Krushna Durga. Krushna had taken two brothers Bharat Majhi(35) and Chatur Majhi(30) to Madhya Pradesh to provide them jobs at a bore well-digging company.
The two bothers demanded wages from the contractor following which the latter tortured them. He told the siblings that the middleman had taken Rs 80,000 from him by mortgaging the two.
The two had informed their plight to their families over phone October 29. Their parents filed a complaint at the Koskara police station in this regard.
Taking serious note of the case, a team of police officials from Koksara led by ASI Janmejay Bag reached Madhy Pradesh and rescued the two.
At this time, Amapani police had contacted the Koksara police team about five migrant labourers stuck in Madhya Pradesh. The families of the five labourers had earlier filed a complaint at the police station, seeking their rescue.
The five others – Tophan Patra (30), Yudhistir Nayak(20), Kumud Majhi(25), Satya Nayak (27) and Balkrushan Nayak(21) of Amapani area- were rescued.
The middleman was arrested, said Koksara IIC Chhatria Prakash.
