Bhubaneswar: Amidst the threat of an expected third wave of Covid-19 outbreak, as many as 794 children in the age group of newborn to 18 years have been infected by the deadly virus within seven days.
According to official sources, even as overall daily caseload remained between 600 to 800 during the same period, new infections among children have been mostly increasing with every passing day.
Odisha recorded 771 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, of which 117 are children, according to a tweet by Health and Family Welfare department Thursday. It was 102 the previous day.
Meanwhile, Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty had earlier said that the disease might be spreading from higher age groups who have been vaccinated for Covid-19.
“It is anticipated that the rate and severity of infection could be less in children during the third wave. Parents have a major role in taking precautions to curb any probable spread,” the DMET had said.
