Ranpur, May 5: Fates of 55 candidates contesting the polls were sealed in EVM as elections to the newly formed local NAC ended up peacefully Tuesday.
Polling took place at 15 booths for the NAC which is constituted of 15 wards. The voter turnout was 7,977 (about 80 per cent) against the total number voters of 9,969. While the ward no-1 received 84 per cent of polling, the highest, ward no-4 recorded lowest voters’ turnout at 78 per cent.
Collector Hemant Kumar Padhi and NAC election officer and ADM Rabindra Kumar Sahoo and police officials visited various booths to take stock of the situation.
According to the election officer, the EVMs have been shifted to the strong room at Girls’ High School here under tight security cover and those would be taken to the counting centre Wednesday. The result would be declared following the counting. BJD, BJP and Congress, the three major political parties have pinned up their hopes on the result, sources said.
