Bhubaneswar: Fear of the Red rebels is forcing many families from Malkangiri. Already four families of Kurub village under Kalimela police station limits in this tribal-dominated district have fled their homes.
According to reports, these families were often threatened by the Maoists who suspected them to be police informers. Fearing threat to their lives, these families walked for more than 40 km under the cover of night Saturday and took shelter in their relatives’ houses.
While two families have taken shelter at Kodel Metla village, the other two have sought refuge in Mandapalli.
“The Red rebels threatened us to leave our village. They also threatened us with dire consequences. As a result we were forced to leave our village and save our lives,” one of the victims said.
“Yesterday four families from Kurub village under Kalimela police limits fled their homes as they were threatened by the Maoists. Currently, they have taken shelter in their relatives’ houses. We are sending the details to the collectorate. Meanwhile, we have provided them with all help under government’s welfare schemes,” Jagmohan Meena, S P Malkangiri, told the media.
