Koraput: The cultural link between Orissa and Maharashtra dates back to ancient times and people of both the regions played a crucial role in nation building, said Central University-Koraput vice-chancellor Sachchidananda Tuesday at the varsity’s Sunabeda campus.
He said this while inaugurating a workshop on ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’, a drive launched by Union Ministry of Human Resources Development to celebrate the unity in diversity and promote national integration among all states and Union Territories. All states and UTs will be covered under the programme and there will be pairing of states/UTs at the national level and these pairings will be in effect for one year or until the next round of pairings, it was learnt.
Mumbai University professor Sandha Rayate attended the week-long programme as Orissa and Maharashtra have been made a pair. She talked about Marathi culture and play during her speech.
Speaking on the occasion, CU professor Saurav Gupta said theatre brings social tradition and reality to the fore and Indian history talks about unity in diversity.
Gupta termed the pairing as a historic event as both the states are rich in culture and heritage.
