Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is to present the annual budget for 2018-19 at 11 am today. The budget is to be presented as the country faces rural distress and an agrarian crisis. There is also an urgent need to create jobs and push economic growth. However, given the fact that this would be the incumbent government’s last full budget before the general elections, there is also speculation that it could be a populist budget.
Expectations from the budget include increase in gross borrowings to Rs6.5 lakh crore against 6.05 lakh crore the past fiscal. Boost to infrastructure is also expected. Eyes are also on corporate taxes.
