Bhubaneswar: The state government Saturday extended the tenure of Commission of inquiry investigating multi-crore chit fund scam by another six months with effect from February 5.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Home department. The Commission headed by retired justice Madan Mohan Das was constituted in July 2013 to identify the depositors who had been duped by chit fund companies. The panel has identified a total of 55,563 small depositors in the fourth phase after verifying 1,38,388 affidavits submitted by the investors.
Earlier, the Commission had submitted its third interim report to the government identifying 41,519 small investors in July last year. The panel has recommended the government to refund of money deposited by the small investors on priority basis.
In another development, the government has also extended the tenure of judiciary Commission enquiring into the incident of police firing at village Gumudumaha under Baliguda police station in Kandhamal district which had taken place July 8, 2016.
The tenure has been increased to 20 months from 18 months. Notably, five tribals including two women and a two-year old boy were killed during an anti-Maoist operation in a forest in Kandhamal.  PNN
