Bhubaneswar: The Class XII results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Saturday (May 26) came as sweet surprises for many while a few got unexpected jerks. Amid celebrations and disappointments, two city students Reetu Kumari and Siba Smarak Panigrahi danced for joy. Reason: They have become the Bhubaneswar region (Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh) toppers by securing 98.6 per cent each in Commerce and Science streams respectively in Class XII exams.

Reetu is a student of KIIT International School and Siba is Kendriya Vidyalaya-2 student. Both have shared their success stories with Orissa POST.

Study strategy

Reaching top is not easy. It needs a lot of hard work, preparation and study plan. Both are dedicated towards their studies and attentive in their classes.

Reetu Kumari

Reetu, who hails from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, said, “I didn’t study at the last minute. I was attentive in school and I studied for 8-10 hours after school. I revised the topic everyday which was taught by my teachers. I had never done late night study. I practiced subjects every day. I never missed a day.”

The region topper believes that sleeping quality time is essential for keeping the mind fresh. “I used to sleep from 10 pm to 8 am. A good amount of time sleeping kept me energizing,” she said.

Siba said he dedicated his time for the whole year to score good marks. “I gave mock tests which helped me to be acquainted with the Board patterns. I revised NCERT book and the result was visible. I used to study 10 hours (self study 6 hours and coaching 4 hours). I preferred morning time for study.”

Success Mantra

Reetu said that motivation is another key to move forward. She was surrounded by people who motivated and encouraged her. “My teachers motivated me a lot. My friends used to tell me that I could achieve good marks. I was disheartened when I was not able to secure 10 CGPA in Class X. But this failure inspired me to work hard to do well in Class XII,” she said.

Economics was her weak subject but she studied more and secured 100 marks out of 100. “Economics was my weak subject. I used to score below 60 in class out of 80. But I studied well and scored well,” Reetu said.

Siba Smarak Panigrahi

For Siba, Success Mantra is practicing more. “As much as you practice from NCERT books, you will secure good marks. I revised over and over. This apart, you must be attentive in classes. Once you are clear with concept, the subjects will be easy.”

Future plan

Everybody wants to shoot the moon when you score good marks but Reetu, who is a true believer of God, wants to pursue business and commerce studies. “After B Com in finance and accounting either at Delhi University, Kolkata or XIMB, I will pursue CA course,” she said.

Siba has taken JEE Advanced exam and is hoping to pursue IIT in a reputed institute. He said, “I want to be an engineer. This apart, I have also appeared for NEET exam for medical. The result will be out on June 5. I expect to score 550 out of 720.”

Tips for the CBSE students

  • Practicing subjects is the key to success
  • Never take any stress for any exams
  • Be positive and never doubt yourself
