Nayagarh: Tension ran high after a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle died while her husband was rendered critical in a mishap Tuesday morning. The vehicle was hit by a truck at Kalapathar Square here in Nayagarh district. The deceased was Deepa Pradhan.
The couple was on their way to a relative’s house to attend an event. The truck hit them from the rear and fled the spot. The woman died on the spot. Locals rushed the husband to a local hospital.
Angry locals staged a blockade on the main road connecting Khandapada and Bhubaneswar, demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased and arrest of the truck driver. A police team reached the spot and pacified the mob. The agitators relented after the police announced the arrest of the driver and seizure of the vehicle.
