Nayagarh: An auto driver was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon by a gang of miscreants at Darapada Chhak on National Highway 21 under Sarankul police limits in this district Monday night.
The injured driver has been identified as Santosh Kumar Majhi of Ghadual village under Nayagarh block. Santosh sustained deep cut injuries on his right chest. He was first rushed to the Nayagarh district hospital and was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Santosh was returning from Sarankul to his house at about 10.30pm.
When he reached Darapada chhak on National Highway 21, Santhosh was waylaid by some miscreants and they demanded money to let him go. When Santhosh said he had no money, the miscreants attacked him and fled the spot. The injured Santosh gathered courage and drove up to Kalaynpur, a nearby village. From there, Santosh’s relatives took him to the district hospital.
Town police reached the hospital and launched a probe.
