Dhenkanal: A group of people reportedly roughed up a mentally-challenged youth on the suspicion of him being a child lifter at Kantapal village under Kankadahada police limits in this district Monday.
The youth, a resident of nearby Jhatikipasi village, was found wandering around the Kantapal village Monday at around 10 am. However, a group of youngsters from the village found his movements to be strange and suspected that he was a child lifter.
When they started questioning him, instead of giving proper answers, the scared youth tried to run away from the spot.
The agitated mob chased him and thrashed him black and blue before dragging him to the Kankadahad police station.
Police investigation revealed that he was a mentally-challenged youth.
“After interrogation, it was found that the youth is mentally-challenged. He has been handed over to his family members,” said the IIC.
