Jagatsinghpur: Close on the heels of the Center’s nod to death penalty for people convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years, there were reports of three minor girls being raped in Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar and Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj Thursday.
While two minor boys aged, 11 and 14 years, allegedly gang raped a 5-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a relative at Damahuda under patina police limits in Keonjhar and a 14-year-old girl was raped in Gorumahisani.
In related incidents, a minor Kond girl was allegedly raped in Baruabadi village under Dasamantpur panchayat of Koraput district Tuesday, while another minor girl was allegedly raped at Ghatagharasahi in Nilagiri NAC of Balasore.
The gang rape at Jagatsinghpur took place in the evening hours of Wednesday on a school premises at Kantaballavpur village. The boys were known to the victim and allegedly lured the girl, a student of Class I, with soft drinks and took her to the school where she was sexually assaulted by them, inspector In-Charge of Jagatsinghpur police station Rajanikant Misra said. The school was vacant due to the ongoing summer vacation. The matter came to light after a complaint was lodged by the girl’s mother, they said.
The two boys were taken into custody Thursday. The victim and the boys were sent for medical examination to the District Headquarters Hospital here. Necessary action will be taken after getting the report, Misra said. The statement of the girl was also recorded.
In Keonjhar, Mahandra Jerai, a relative of the girl is accused of raping the minor while her parents were away home April 14.
The victim was medically examined. Police arrested the accused, said IIC Pramodini Sahu.
In Rairangpur, a 14-year old girl was raped and threatened with life at Gorumahisani. Umara Tiria has been accused of raping the minor on the promise of marriage. Police registered a case.
In Nilagiri, the victim was lured by one Guba Singh (35) when she went to play with her friends Wednesday. The accused took her to his house to show her TV, but raped her. Police have registered a case and arrested the accused after recording the statement of the victim.
In yet another incident, a minor Kondh minor girl was raped Tuesday, but the matter came to light Thursday. Accused Deva Gadaba(35) gagged the 12-year-old victim and took her to a nearby hill to outrage her modesty.
The Deva’s wife, after learning about the incident, dragged the girl on the village road and beat her up instead of showing sympathy. Due to lack of awareness, the matter has not been reported at the police station yet. While the family of the victim said they would file a case Friday, it is learnt that the accused is absconding.
All three cases come close on the heels of a similar incident in Sambalpur district April 24 when another five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a minor boy, police said.Earlier, a 14-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped April 19 after being forced to consume alcohol by an auto-rickshaw driver in Thakurmunda area of Mayurbhanj district.Similar cases of minors’ rape were reported earlier in the state – one in Kalahandi and three in Balasore district.
