Khandapara: The Khandapara Excise Department office is operating from a rental premises while its new building has been locked.
The excise office at Trinath square is owned by a villager. While the office does not have a signboard, the government has been spending lakhs of rupees on its rent.
The building, built at a cost of Rs 50 lakh at Chinikala Sahi in ward No. 12, has been locked for two years for reasons known to the authorities.
Locals alleged the concerned authorities are not keen on operating from the new building premises which is turning into a haunted house.
On being asked, the concerned officials evaded a direct answer.
The local have urged the collector and the Excise superintendent to take immediate measures to make the new building functional.
