State govt celebrates World Youth Skills Day

Bhubaneswar: The state government celebrated the World Youth Skills Day, 2018 at various technical and vocational education institutes including government ITIs across the state Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal of ITI Berhampur Rajat Panigrahi said, “The state government is committed to its ‘Skilled in Odisha’ initiative and so we are celebrating the World Youth Skills Day which is an initiative of the United Nations, in all government ITIs across the state.”
Underlining that the state aims to take skill development to the international level, he added that they had also organised an event on the occasion similar to one celebrated with much grandeur last year.
Panigrahi claimed that “public awareness” is created through the event and added that they were planning on how to enroll large number of girls in skill development training.
It may be worth mentioning here that the state government has recently launched a new scheme ‘Sudakshya’ to improve the enrolment of girls in government ITIs. The enrollment of girls in the ITIs has increased from 6 per cent to 13 per cent this year, he pointed out.
Principal of ITI Cuttack Hrushikesh Mohanty said there is a need to skill the youths of India for development of the nation.
Mohanty heaped praises on ITI Cuttack and said, “ITI Cuttack has already bagged 14 medals in the ‘Odisha Skills 2018′ and also were champions in two skills out of four in the regional competition.” He further added that the ITI also emerged champions at the recently held India Skills Regional Competition (South) in Bangalore and stood first runners up in the competition (West) held in Rajasthan.

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) along with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Sunday announced the commencement of India Skills Regional Competitions (Eastern Chapter) 2018 in the city.
The announcement was made at an event organised at a university here to mark the third anniversary of Skill India Mission. Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the event.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Pradhan said, “Skill is not a new concept to our country. It has been recognised since ages. The Ratha Yatra in Puri is in itself a reflection of a successful skill ecosystem which ensures year after year, the huge wheeled wooden chariot is built, painted and carved upon with beautiful designs on which the yatra takes place. This is a small example of the work of skilled professionals. Similarly, in today’s age we are identifying several new job opportunities which are relevant to the market.”
Among others, KP Krishnan, secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shrimati Jhuthika Patankar, Additional secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Shrimati Sunita Sanghi were present on the occasion.
ITI Cuttack has been selected as one of the venues for the India Skills Regional Competition where students can participate in two skills. Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University would host the competition of 25 skills for three days — 15, 16 and 17 July, sources said.
The skill competition here is expected to witness the participation of over 250 competitors from 23 states, with majority of them from seven eastern states – Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Jharkhand and Meghalaya –competing across 27 skills.
