Balasore: The Central Excise (Intelligence) officials Wednesday arrested four persons and seized brown sugar weighing nearly 300 grams from a car that was going from Jaleswar in this district to Bhubaneswar.
The worth of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 30 lakh.
The four accused were identified as Intaz Mallick, Yasin Bax, Sk Nassiumddin and Noor Sazat.
According to reports all the accused pooled money together and procured brown sugar from Kharagpur in Kolkata.
Their plans were to share the profit equally after selling the contraband at several places in the capital city.
However, acting on a tip-off, the officials intercepted the car on Kathajodi bridge in Cuttack and seized the contraband from the vehicle.
The owner of the car is an advocate and further investigation is underway, reports added.
