Puri: A girl and his lover Saturday consumed pesticides at a lodge on City Road under Beach police station here over some issues.
While the girl died at the district headquarters hospital, her lover was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
On being informed, police reached the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem.
Although police have identified the boy as Asish Pradhan, they are yet to identify the girl. Sources claimed that the girl was a resident of Balisahi area of the city.
According to sources, Pradhan and his lover reached the lodge in the afternoon and asked for a room. However, the lodge manager refused to provide them one as they did not have identity proofs.
“The couple was loitering near the lodge counter and fell unconscious. We found a polythene containing pesticides outside the lodge. Our people rushed the couple to the district headquarters hospital,” said an employee of the lodge.
Beach police station assistant sub-inspector Subhash Chandra Pahadsingh said they have seized a packet containing the pesticides. “We have interrogated the lodge manager. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” he said.
