Rourkela: A ray of hope ascended on the residents of inaccessible, neglected remote Karuadera and Bhalubahal hamlets under Tangarpali block after Sundargarh Collector Surendra Kumar Meena visited the villages where no government officials have ever put their foot on.
In a bid to ensure implementation of development schemes in remote areas, the DM trekked through hills to reach the remote villages. He was taken aback to see that the villages were eluded of all basic facilities, including a motorable road, electricity, drinking water, telephone network facilities and rural housing coverage.
After hearing the pleas of the people, the Collector ordered immediate construction of motorable road, installation of two solar-powered pump sets and digging of two wells in the hamlet, which has 70 households.
When he learnt that the land records under Forest Righs Act (FRA) were pending in the office of Sundargarh Sub-Collector, Meena instructed officials to immediately provide land records to the beneficiaries and assured that eligible villagers would be covered under rural housing schemes.
He also assured the villagers that they would be supplied with solar lights.
Later, the Collector visited an Anganwadi center at Dungaghat of Mohulpali panchayat of the block and distributed play and study materials among pre-school kids. Meena said some of the children, who were coming to the Anganwadi centre bare feet, were given footwear and study materials to attract them to schools.
The Collector then attended the grievance hearing at Tasladihi and Majhapara in Sadar block where a record number of 372 complaints were heard.
He also visited three schools in the two blocks and distributed chairs, fans, mats and other materials for mid-day meal (MDM) programme for 307 students.
The Collector said he would make surprise visits to inaccessible pockets. Last Monday, the Collector had taken MDM meal with students.
