Khaira: Bimala Mallick, a livestock inspector, is a known face in the Khaira area of Balasore. Her dream was to become a police officer, but it was not to be. She became a livestock inspector.
Visiting villages daily and providing service to livestock has made her familiar with people. As soon as she gets information about domestic animals falling sick, she rushes to the villages concerned.
“My concern is to ensure I don’t get careless in treating livestock so that people will have to suffer,” she said.
A resident of Nahanga under this block, she has been serving as an LI at Patarajpur centre for the last four months. She has been successfully treating livestock in panchayats like Palasa, Jhumkiria, Goliha, Dungura and Amaria under this LI centre.
She was married to Nabaghan Das at Mangapur in Bhadrak. After her marriage, she underwent LI training at Berhampur and was posted at Patrajpur April 17, 2018.
“I dreamt of becoming a police officer, but by the grace of God I was attracted towards livestock service, which I think is no less than serving one’s mother. It gives me joy.” She said.
For 15 to 20 days in a month, she has to visit villages for immunization or awareness programmes.
Though her work time is 7 am to 11 pm, she has to spend more time in the field for artificial insemination and livestock count.
However, she mentioned a few inconveniences. There is no motorable road to the LI centre and electricity has not been supplied to the office.
