Bhubaneswar: With flood water entering numerous villages in Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday announced a seven-day relief for over 7.5 lakh affected people in these areas.
Naveen made the announcement during a review meeting with Collectors of the concerned districts through video conference. As per the relief programme announced by the Chief Minister, daily relief worth Rs 60 will be provided to adults, while children below 12-years of age will receive Rs 45.
The Chief Minister also extended free health care services, including vaccination for domestic animals in the flood-affected areas. He asked the Collectors to submit flood damage report within a week.
A preliminary report said that while 6,500 houses have been damaged by flood in the state..
“A total of 903 villages in 17 blocks and four urban local bodies (ULBs) of the in these three districts have been affected by floods. In addition, 7.5 lakh people were affected by flood water from the Baitarani river and standing crops on around 50,000 hectares of farmland were damaged,” Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi told reporters after the meeting.
More than 40,000 people who have been evacuated to safer places are being provided with cooked food, he said.
Similarly, 90 metric tonnes of fodder has been provided for domesticated animals in these areas. The Health Department has been instructed to ensure free healthcare services to the affected people. The CM has also asked the authorities to ensure supply of adequate safe drinking water at the relief camps.
