BHUBANESWAR: Sara Odisha Foundation organised a seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness and Detection program in collaboration with Kalinga Hospital supported by All Inner Wheel club at Odisha State Archives here recently.
Rashmi Hegde, a doctor of Obs and Gynec (O&G), District Chairman of All Inner Wheel club Krishna Mohanty, Surgical Oncologist Pravas kumar Misra and members of Sara Odisha Foundation graced the occasion.
In India, around 11.1 per cent women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Most of these cases are diagnosed either in the third or fourth stage. The survival chances for cancer in India are about 75 to 80 per cent. The month of October is observed as the National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The month helps to augment attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of the chronic disease.
Mamata Bajapayi General Secretary of Sara Odisha Foundation said, “We organised this program to spread awareness on breast cancer among youth. Currently there is insufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer. Early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control. Based on the availability of adequate diagnosis and treatment, breast cancer can be cured on early detection. Curative treatment is not an option in the later stages of the disease. In such cases, palliative care is needed to lessen the suffering of patients and their families.”
