Bhanjanagar: In a shocking incident, a youth was allegedly strangled to death by his friends over a petty brawl after a drinking session at Ekalpur village under Badagada police limits in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sitaram Das of Lokamari village. The accused were identified as Jitu Rout and Jilu Nayak.
After getting information, a police team led by Badagada IIC Jibananda Jena reached the village and launched a probe. A case of murder was registered based on a complaint by Das’s brother Ghanshyam Das and the body was sent for autopsy.
According to police, the three friends had a drinking session Friday morning. Over some reason, Sitaram broke into a fight with Jitu after getting drunk. In a fit of rage, Jitu along with his other friend Jhilu attacked Sitaram.
The duo beat him up and subsequently strangled him. Hearing the noise, locals rushed to the spot and detained Jitu while Jhilu managed to escape. Locals thrashed Jitu black and blue before handing him over to the police.
“A case has been registered and the body sent for autopsy. As per preliminary probe, the three friends broke into a fight over some petty issue. Later, Jitu and Jhilu killed Sitaram,” IIC Jena said, adding a manhunt was launched to nab the absconder.
