Post news network, Bhubaneswar, March 24: The most awaited Deras food park in Orissa finally got the green signal from the Union ministry of food processing industries (MOFPI), a top official of the department said in a video conferencing here Tuesday.
“The seafood park in Deras, Bhubaneswar, was one of the proposals approved among the 17 proposals. The ministry had allocated six mega food parks to state governments and the rest ten to the private players,” Union food processing minister, Harismrat Kaur Badal said in a video chat with the media persons and government officials.
The Seafood Park, which has been estimated to cost Rs 107cr, will be set up by the state-run Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) at Deras in Khurda district on 100 acres of land.
The Union ministry of food processing industries has however, rejected the proposal of the Huma Coastal Mega (HUMA) Food Park in Orissa. The HUMA food park failed to meet the eligibility criteria laid down in the Mega Food Parks’ Scheme.
“We will again approach the Centre and request them to clear the project,” state MSME department secretary, Panchanan Dash said,
With the new approvals, the total number of the mega food parks has increased to 42 in the country. The approved mega food parks are likely to attract an investment of around Rs 2,000cr for building of modern infrastructure within the complexes, each of which is expected to house 500 food processing units. The combined annual turnover of these food parks are pegged at Rs 8,000cr.
