KISS win Inter-School Championship

Cuttack, April 23: KISS, Bhubaneswar won the PVR Murthy inter-school cricket tournament defeating DAV Public School, Cuttack by 71 runs in a one-sided match at the BOSE Ground here Thursday. Rama Chandra Murmu (50 runs and three wickets) scripted the emphatic win with a brilliant all-round show.

Opting to bat first, KISS scored 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Opener Rama Chandra (50, 51b, 8×4) provided the foundation with a watchful innings. Digambar Pujari (46 n o, 32b, 6×4) and Narasingh Sisa (28, 20b, 2×4, 2×6) got some big hits going at the end to take the score past the 160-run mark.

In reply, DAV Public School were rocked by the bowling of Rama Chandra (3/20) and Jogibar Tiria (2/11) and could muster only 92 runs in 21.5 overs. Sidhartha Nayak (26 n o) and Shibasish Sahoo (25) tried their best but it was not enough to win them the game.

Rama Chandra got the man of the match as well as the man of the tournament awards for his overall show. Shivlal Yadav, former India player was present as the chief guest along with Asirbad Behera, secretary, Orissa Cricket Association (OCA).

Emphatic Wins

In a match of the Debabrata Kar Memorial inter-school football tournament, Sayeed Seminary School, Cuttack drubbed Stewart School by 7-0 at the PM Academy Ground here Wednesday. Sk Shakib Shazad of Sayeed Seminary was declared man of the match.

In another match Thursday, PM Academy School beat Khannagar High School by 5-0. Appu Naik of PM Academy was declared as the man of the match.

Both matches were dominated by the winners from the word go. The opposition simply did not have any resistance to offer.

Football tourney

Orissa will be hosting the Sub-junior Girls’ national football championship as per the instructions of AIFF, the Football Association of Orissa (FAO) said in a press release Thursday. The championship will be commencing May 8 at the Barabati Stadium here. Twenty two states across India will be participating for the prestigious tournament.
