Jajpur: Jajpur district has registered a jump in female voters and a rise in the male-female voter ratio, a report said. This is considered good for democracy and for the advocates of gender equality.
The matter came out during an interaction between Collector Ranjan Kumar Das and the media at a special voters’ list correction programme held at the conference hall of the Collectorate Saturday.
The Collector said the district has 14,43,577 voters. Of this, the number of male voters were 7,56,230, female voters 6,87,265 and others 82. There are 909 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.
This is an increase in the number of female voters. During the 2014 general elections the district had 13,00,745 voters, and there were 874 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.
According to census data, the male-female ratio was 978 females per 1,000 male in the state, while it was 972 females for every 1,000 males in the district. The male-female voter ratio in the state is 946/1,000 while it is 909/1,000 in the district.
Around 98.86 per cent of the voters in the district have got photo identity cards. As many as 16,472 voters have not received their photo identity cards. This is 1.14 per cent of the total voters.
Booth level officers have been asked to collect the photographs of all eligible voters and issue them identity cards.
He said all eligible voters have been asked to first check their names in the voters’ list available at their respective booths, and apply for enrolment to booth level officers if they found their names missing, the Collector added.
