indo-asian news service, New Delhi, May 12: Automobile major Maruti Suzuki India Tuesday became the only car manufacturer in India to roll out its 15 millionth car.
“Maruti Suzuki’s journey has been one of ‘Kaizen’ and continuous improvement. Our people on the shop floor make enormous contribution so that we can offer more to our customers, and fulfil their needs and aspirations,” said Rajiv Gandhi, executive director of production, Maruti Suzuki India.
According to the company, a DZire VDi sedan which rolled-out from its Manesar facility became the 15 millionth car.
The company’s production detail showed that its major brands like Maruti 800, Alto, Wagon R, Omni and new models such as Swift and DZire were produced the most.
In terms of cumulative production, the company manufactured 3.1 million units of brand Alto including the K10 variant, this was followed by Maruti 800, whose 2.9 million units were produced.
Van Omni’s cumulative production stood at 1.7 million, while that of hatchback Wagon R stood at 1.6 million units. About 1.3 million units of hatchback Swift were produced and 1 million units of sedan DZire were manufactured.
The company’s first ever car, a Maruti 800, had rolled-out from its Gurgaon facility in December 1983. The company has achieved this milestone in 31 years and 5 months.
The company added that its medium-term goal is to clock sales of 2 million vehicles per annum by 2020. The company has been expanding its product portfolio, strengthening the sales and service network and enhancing capabilities across the value chain.
