Maneswar, July 15: An attempt by a gang of miscreants to loot a branch of State Bank of India here in Sambalpur district was foiled after the alarm bells installed in the branch rang, forcing the anti-socials to flee.
The miscreants damaged five almirahs and CCTV cameras installed in three rooms of the bank, but could not break the locker.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter. A forensic team from Sambalpur also arrived at the spot to aid the investigators. Though the investigators examined the CCTV footage, they were clueless about the miscreants, police said. Police seized an iron rod, purportedly used by the thieves. There were blood stains at many places in the bank. Jujumara police registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. The thieves failed to steal a single penny as there was foolproof security, a bank official said.
Sources said the outlaws entered the bank by scaling the rear boundary. They snapped all the wires connected with CCTV cameras and attempted to break the locker. However, as soon as the alarm bells started ringing, locals alerted the police. But by the time the police reached there the miscreants had fled.
