Kendrapara: In a tragic incident Sunday, two minor girls drowned in Sukapaika river near Safipur in Kishorenagar police limits.
This incident surfaced when another girl who fortunately survived, came to the village and informed others.
The deceased girls are Sujata Das, 17, daughter of Dhirendra Das, and Suman Das, 17, daughter of Pradeep Das. They along with another girl had gone across the river to pluck flowers for Khudurukuni Puja early morning.
None of them knew swimming. Somehow one of the girls managed to come up the river bank and shouted for help.
Later the two girls were rescued and taken to the Raghunathpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were sent for post-mortem after filing an unnatural death case.
Sunita Das, 20, who survived, is the daughter of Nrusingha Das of the same village. She is in shock after losing her two cousins.
