Malkangiri: A teacher was tied to the school gate and thrashed by the locals here for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class VI girl of the school, in Malkangiri August 26.
The teacher identified as Ashwin Dehury allegedly called the minor girl to his house on the pretext of checking her notes and assaulted her sexually August 23.
Later August 24, Dehury again attempted to outrage the modesty of the girl inside pump house of the school. The villagers took the matter into their hands after the girl reported the matter to her family members.
When the teacher was asked in this regard, he said this is a baseless allegation and the villagers were trying to defame him.
District Welfare Officer (DWO) Pratipta Kumar Panda said he has sent a two-member team to probe the incident. After receiving the reports, he will apprise the Collector and take actions accordingly.
Sources said around 280 girl students were staying in the residential school.
