In our hugely populated country where Cricket is considered as a religion next to movies, its players are literally treated like demigods in their respective territories. Along with a pan-Indian name & fame, several attractions like brand endorsements and showbiz opportunities queue before them.

Despite the impeccable craze for cricket, the number of cricket-based movies in Bollywood and regional cinema has been quite limited. Meanwhile, watch these Telugu movies on cricket and get yourselves warmed up.

Golconda High School (2011): Helmed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti, the sports-themed film showcased how an amateur school cricket team secured their playground with the assistance of a new coach who happens to be the ex-student and star cricketer of that very school. Upon release, Golconda High School bagged favourable reviews from critics as well as viewers and scored a thumping victory at the ticket counters.

Majili (2019): ‘Majili’ is a tale of a failed cricketer named Poorna (Naga Chaitanya) who goes through heartbreak and depression after his first love Anshu (Divyanka Kaushik) is forced to leave him and marry somebody else. Sravani (Samantha) happens to be his neighbour and has been in love with Poorna since her college days. She decides to marry him and despite his indifference and negligence towards her, she ‘unconditionally’ loves him and takes in all the mental agony caused by her husband with no complaint. However, things start to turn interesting when Poorna decides to teach cricket to Anshu’s daughter Meera. Besides the crackling chemistry between Chay and Sam, the Shiva Nirvana directorial worked wonders at the BO due to the emotional connect in the storyline and Gopi Sunder’s soothing music.

Jersey (2019): Nani’s last outing ‘Jersey’ garnered immense critical acclaim and incredible commercial reception. The endearing sports-drama traced the life of an aged cricketer who is determined to prove his worth at the age of 36. Along with the heart-touching story and mind-boggling climax, the stellar performances from all lead actors like Nani, Shraddha Srinath and Sathyaraj have aided ‘Jersey’ to hit the bull’s eye.
