Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik Wednesday urged Assembly Speaker S N Patro to constitute a House Committee to inquire into the issue of contractual appointments made by the state government.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Naik said the committee under the chairmanship of the Speaker should inquire into the contractual appointments made by the government in different departments.
He said the state government, instead of giving regular appointments, has been appointing the employees on contract basis with a salary of Rs 8,880 per month and regularising their service after six years.
Though the employees appointed on contractual basis are performing the same job as that of a regular employee, they were getting salary much less than the regular staff.
Naik further said these contractual employees were facing problems as every year the appointment of the contractual workers is being cancelled and the job to appoint employees is being given to a new company.
He said the government has fixed the daily wages of highly skilled worker at Rs 430 per day. If calculated, the monthly wage of a highly skilled worker is coming to more than Rs 12,000 per month.
Naik said in Delhi the government has fixed the minimum salary of an employee at Rs 14,842 and asked why such things would not be implemented in Odisha.
The Leader of Opposition said the government was not recruiting regular employees as it was outsourcing people at a hefty salary.
He demanded the government to abolish the outsourcing system.
