Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Hundreds of art lovers in the capital city thronged Lalit Kala Akademi in order to get a glimpse of the works of one of India’s most engaging and influential artists KG Subramanyan Thursday.
Around 240 artworks – sketches, scribbles and drawings – fascinated the visitors. From bold point pen on paper to crayons and marker on paper, the exhibition offered a stunning array of expressions through different mediums.
“Those who never had the chance to see his work will benefit immensely from the experience. We have displayed many of his works spanning five decades and more. Surely, visitors will learn something from his work. He is now 92 years old but his works still fascinate us,” said Ramakrishna Vedala, regional secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi.
Subramanyan is counted as one of the few artists to work with all mediums and styles. He is not only a painter but also a designer, writer and teacher. He chose not to follow any particular genre but has developed his own personal language to expand communication through art.
“He has expressed beautifully through his art the lifestyle of the people of Japan and Varanasi. I am amazed how he managed to put his thoughts and imagination on canvas. These artworks are really adorable,” said Pallavi Sahu, a visitor.
A documentary film on Subramanyan was screened at the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition to continue till September 11. The 10-day exhibition was inaugurated by senior artists Jayadev Maharana and Dharma Maharana.
